The Back Story
They say “necessity is the mother of invention,” and some content providers’ often serious disregard for both the spirit and the letter of mobile premium services (MPS) industry standards is exactly what prompted WMC Global’s founders to put on their entrepreneurial thinking caps in late 2005.
As early as the 1990s, some of the individuals who'd one day come together as the WMC Global team worked in the wireless data services environment in Europe and the U.K., where SMS had already exploded virally. When SMS subsequently came into common use in the U.S., we were first on the scene, making it happen. Before long, however, we recognized the need for market oversight: wireless carriers simply were unable to monitor the vast wireless environment effectively and control PSMS program activity on their own networks. So, in January 2006, we established Wireless Media Consulting, the company that would grow rapidly into WMC Global, and The PSMS Industry Monitor Report was born. Today, WMC Global intercepts in market, audits, and reports on tens of thousands of MPS programmes and related SMS message flows every month in Australia as well as in the U.S. and the U.K.. Based on carrier approval of audit results, we then work directly with content providers and aggregators to enforce industry and carrier-specific standards. In addition, WMC Global team members assist carriers with industry consulting services and preapproval of MPS programmes.
